Unless you live under a rock, you probably know about eBay. You can get a lot of great deals and steals in the online auction world, but sometimes finding a good deal on eBay is liking finding a needle in a haystack (unless you have a metal detector). Well, we here at CouponSurfer have four great tips so you can get past all those mediocre auctions and find those great bargains.
1. Look in multiple categories for an item
For example, if you are looking for a handbag, try multiple other fashion accessory categories, such as shoes. A lot of people post their auctions in multiple categories, and are sometimes careless and put it in the wrong one.
2. Try different misspellings
A lot of times people don’t proofread their auction listings and misspell the item’s name in the title or description. For an easy way to search for keywords that are spelled wrong try FatFingers.com.
3. Bid once
Bid the maximum price your are willing to pay and only do it once. Don’t pay attention to what anyone else appears or doesn’t appear to be bidding. This will prevent you from getting caught up in the “bidding frenzy” and cause you to spend more money than you want to.
4. Don’t bid until the last minute of the auction
Probably the biggest mistake people make on eBay is bidding too early. If you bid three days before an auction ends, you are just helping to drive up price. If you wait until the last possible second, chances are that the ending price will be a lot less. You don’t even need to be at your computer to do this. Check out how to use eBay’s Automatic Bidding.
